The Sub-Zero Designer 15-inch ice maker (DEU1550I/DEU1550IP) is the clear-ice machine to buy if your kitchen is already Sub-Zero and you want everything to match. It's rated at 65 pounds of clear, full-size square cubes a day, holds 25 pounds, runs quietly, connects to Sub-Zero's app and is approved indoors or out. List prices run about $5,430 to $6,750. You pay roughly $1,600 or more over Scotsman for that integration and polish, not for extra ice.
Best for: Clear ice · Integrated / panel-ready look · Entertainers

Design and build
This is Sub-Zero's current 15-inch ice maker, replacing the legacy UC-15I and UC-15IP. It measures 15 inches wide, 34.5 inches tall and 23.125 inches deep. You order it panel-ready or add a stainless door kit with tubular or pro handle, and there's a dedicated outdoor stainless kit. Gravity-drain (DEU1550I) and pumped (DEU1550IP) versions are available, each with left or right hinge.
The design payoff is that it lines up visually with Sub-Zero refrigerator drawers, beverage centers and columns, which is why designers specify it.
Performance on paper
AJ Madison lists 65 pounds of clear, square, full-size cubes a day and 25 pounds of bin storage for the pumped DEU1550IP. Sub-Zero adds MaxQuiet noise reduction, which matters in an open-plan kitchen or a bar beside the family room. Automated cleaning-cycle prompts remind you to descale.
Wi-Fi through the Sub-Zero Owner's App is the feature the Scotsman and U-Line lack. Remote alerts make most sense on an outdoor or second-home install you don't see every day.
Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Buy it if you're building a Sub-Zero/Wolf kitchen, want panels that match the rest of your undercounter units, and value quiet operation and app alerts. It also suits outdoor kitchens that need a matching stainless look.
Skip it if you're buying on ice per dollar. The Scotsman Brilliance is rated at the same 65 pounds a day with a bigger bin for much less. Energy-conscious buyers should also note it isn't Energy Star certified.
Price, warranty and service
Sub-Zero publishes a price range of about $5,430 (panel-ready, no pump) to $6,750 (top configuration with pump and stainless door kit) without mapping each one, so get a written quote for the exact setup you want. Sub-Zero enforces minimum advertised pricing; savings usually come from dealer packages with other Sub-Zero, Wolf or Cove appliances. AJ Madison lists a 2-year parts and labor warranty, and Sub-Zero's standard coverage applies.
How it compares
Scotsman vs Sub-Zero ice makers is the key comparison: same output, very different price. The U-Line 1 Class 15 is cheaper with more finish choices but indoor only. Pair it with the Sub-Zero Designer 24-inch beverage center for a matched bar. Our best undercounter ice makers and undercounter refrigeration hub have more, and a package quote shows bundle pricing.
Our verdict
The Sub-Zero Designer 15 is an excellent, quiet, connected clear-ice maker that matches the rest of a Sub-Zero kitchen. It doesn't make more ice than Scotsman, so you're paying for integration, app alerts and the badge. Worth it in an all-Sub-Zero kitchen; hard to justify otherwise.

Questions about the Sub-Zero Designer 15-inch Undercounter Ice Maker
How much ice does the Sub-Zero 15-inch ice maker make?
AJ Madison lists 65 pounds of clear, square, full-size cubes a day, with a 25 lb bin, for the DEU1550IP. That matches the Scotsman Brilliance rating and beats the U-Line 1 Class 15 by 10 pounds.
What replaced the Sub-Zero UC-15I?
The Designer DEU1550I (gravity drain) and DEU1550IP (pumped) replace the UC-15I and UC-15IP. The new models add Wi-Fi through the Sub-Zero Owner's App and indoor/outdoor approval.
Is the Sub-Zero ice maker worth the extra cost over Scotsman?
Only if integration matters. You get matching panels or Sub-Zero door kits, MaxQuiet operation and app alerts, but the same rated 65 lb/day. If ice is the priority, the Scotsman saves you roughly $1,600 or more.
