A luxury refrigerator is a built-in or fully integrated unit that sits flush with your cabinetry instead of sticking out past it. Most of the models we cover stand about 83 to 84 inches tall, and list prices run from about $8,900 for a freezer column to $15,900 MSRP before any dealer package.

Here's the short answer. If you want the benchmark and plan to keep the kitchen for decades, start with Sub-Zero. Its 48-inch Classic side-by-side pairs 29.1 cu ft with dual refrigeration and 12 years of limited sealed-system coverage. If you want the biggest freezer in a 48-inch built-in, look hard at Monogram, whose 12.34 cu ft freezer leads this group. If you want the fridge to disappear behind cabinet panels, a column system from Sub-Zero Designer, Miele MasterCool or Liebherr Monolith is the more elegant answer.

Every product below is compared on published specs, list prices and warranty terms. The ratings are editorial estimates, not lab results. Use the grid to filter by width, style and price, or let the Kitchen Suite Matcher pick a refrigerator that fits the rest of your suite.

The Fisher & Paykel Series 11 36-inch integrated French door (RS3684AUVE1) is the best-value way to get a fully integrated, one-box fridge with a freezer. Starting at $11,999 on fisherpaykel.com, it holds 19.6 cubic feet, adds a 1.3-cubic-foot Variable Temperature drawer, and installs flush with 1/8-inch gaps. It also carries Energy Star Most Efficient status. The trade-offs: a basic 2-year warranty with no extended sealed-system coverage listed, and less freezer space than a 48-inch built-in. For most integrated kitchens, it's the value benchmark.

The JennAir 48-inch built-in side-by-side (JBSFS48NMX) is the most design-driven fridge in its size class and a strong value at a base MSRP of $12,599. It holds 29.4 cubic feet, including the biggest fresh-food section here at 19.1 cubic feet, behind a dramatic Obsidian black interior. The important caveat: that price is the panel-ready base unit. The RISE or NOIR stainless panel kit that gives it the JennAir look costs extra, and we couldn't verify the kit price. Get the kit quoted before you compare prices.

The Liebherr Monolith 30-inch column with BioFresh (MRB3010) is the specialist's integrated fridge, built for people who care most about keeping fresh food fresh. Its BioFresh-Plus drawers include one that can drop to 28°F for seafood, and the Energy Star unit is rated at 245 kWh a year. It sells for about $9,999 at major retailers. The trade-offs are the smallest capacity of the 30-inch columns here at 15 cubic feet and a smaller US service footprint than the American brands.

Miele MasterCool 30-inch Refrigerator Column

The Miele MasterCool 30-inch refrigerator column (K 2802 Vi) is the minimalist's integrated fridge: handleless, quiet-looking and built around produce-friendly MasterFresh drawers. It holds 16.77 cubic feet of refrigerator space and lists at $9,699 on mieleusa.com, a few hundred dollars under Sub-Zero's equivalent. You're buying design and German engineering more than capacity. The trade-offs are a slightly smaller box, a shorter warranty than Sub-Zero's sealed-system coverage, and the need for a separate freezer column. It's the natural fridge for a kitchen built around Miele ovens and dishwashers.

The Miele MasterCool 24-inch Freezer Column (F 2672 Vi) is the most feature-rich luxury freezer column we cover, and the only one with an ice and chilled-water dispenser. It lists at $9,849 at Miele and one major dealer, with panels sold separately, and holds 11.23 cu ft (318 liters). Add NoFrost, SuperFrost, an IceMaker rated at up to 150 cubes a day, Push2open doors and a MasterSensor color touch display. It's the priciest of the three columns here, and Miele's standard warranty is shorter on paper than Sub-Zero's.

Monogram 48-inch Smart Built-In Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Monogram · Refrigerator · Side-by-side

Value4/5

The Monogram 48-inch built-in side-by-side (ZISS480NNSS) is the value play among big luxury built-ins: Sub-Zero-class capacity and sealed-system coverage for an MSRP of about $14,080. You get 29.5 cubic feet, the largest freezer in this group at 12.34 cubic feet, a climate-control drawer and SmartHQ connectivity. The trade-offs are a single stainless finish, less brand cachet, and specs that come from a retailer rather than Monogram's own site. For families who fill a freezer, it's the most practical 48-inch built-in in this group.

18″ refrigerator

Sub-Zero Designer 18-inch Column Freezer with Ice Maker

Value3/5

The Sub-Zero Designer 18-inch Column Freezer with Ice Maker (DEC1850FI) is the narrowest way to add a fully integrated freezer to a Sub-Zero column kitchen. It lists at $9,050 panel-ready without a handle, holds 8.8 cu ft, and includes an automatic ice maker with Max Ice mode that boosts production by an average of 30% for 24 hours. It pairs with Designer refrigerator columns like the 30-inch DEC3050R. The catch: that's a lot of money per cubic foot, and Sub-Zero doesn't publish daily ice output.

Sub-Zero Designer 30-inch Column Refrigerator

Features4/5
Value3/5

The Sub-Zero Designer 30-inch column (DEC3050R) is the fridge to buy if you want refrigeration to disappear into your cabinetry and you're willing to pay for two boxes instead of one. It's an all-refrigerator column with 17.5 cubic feet, Split Climate cooling and Energy Star certification, listing at about $10,265 panel-ready or $11,220 with a stainless door kit. The catch is simple: there's no freezer, so the real budget includes a matching freezer column and a wider wall of cabinetry.

Sub-Zero Classic 48-inch Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer

Sub-Zero · Refrigerator · Side-by-side

  • $14,065-$15,920 MSRP

Value3/5

The Sub-Zero Classic 48-inch side-by-side (CL4850S) is the safe default for a big family kitchen that wants one built-in fridge it never has to think about. On paper you get 29.1 cubic feet, split 18.7 fresh and 10.4 frozen, two independent cooling systems, and the longest sealed-system coverage in this class. List price runs about $14,065 to $15,920 depending on finish. The trade-offs: you pay a premium for the badge, and a side-by-side is less flexible than a column pair.

The Thermador Freedom 24-inch Built-in Freezer Column (T24IF905SP) is the value pick among luxury freezer columns, and it gives you more space than Sub-Zero's 18-inch for less. It carries an $8,949 MSRP (on sale for $8,099 at one major dealer on October 7, 2026), holds 12.2 cu ft, and adds Thermador's Diamond Ice System for slow-melting shaped ice, SuperFreeze down to -22°F and Energy Star certification. Design4/5
Features5/5
Value4/5

The Thermador Freedom 36-inch French door built-in (T36IT100NP) is the most feature-packed integrated fridge at this size, and the smartest buy if you want one panel-ready box rather than a column pair. It lists at $11,599 on thermador.com and brings a convertible ThermaFlex drawer, interior cameras, an internal water dispenser and diamond-shaped ice. The trade-off is space: 18.8 cubic feet gross is modest, and panels and handles are sold separately. On paper, it's the strongest all-in-one choice for a 36-inch opening.

Viking Professional 5 Series 48-inch Built-in Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer

Viking · Refrigerator · Side-by-side

Value3/5

The Viking Professional 5 Series 48-inch side-by-side (VCSB5484) is the fridge for a kitchen built around a Viking range, especially one in a Viking color. It holds 29.05 cubic feet, uses a variable-speed DC compressor, carries Energy Star certification and starts at $12,689 in stainless. One note up front: if you were looking for a 7 Series 48-inch side-by-side, Viking's current built-in lineup only offers this size in the 5 Series. The trade-offs are no advertised Wi-Fi and a 26.25-inch depth.

How to choose a built-in refrigerator

Built-in vs counter-depth vs column refrigerators

A built-in refrigerator is designed to be framed by cabinets, with a shallow cabinet depth (the Sub-Zero Classic 48 is 24 inches deep) and a grille or panel at the top. Counter-depth models are freestanding fridges made shallower; they cost less but rarely look truly built in. Our counter-depth vs built-in refrigerator guide walks through the trade-offs.

Columns are single-purpose units, all refrigerator, all freezer or all wine, that you combine side by side. They give you the most layout freedom and the cleanest integrated look. The catch: you buy and install each column separately. See how column refrigerators work before you commit.

Freezer columns: completing a column pair

A refrigerator column usually has no freezer, so most column kitchens add a freezer column beside it or in a pantry. The three on our list are all panel-ready, all 84 inches tall or just under, and all include an ice maker. The Sub-Zero Designer 18-inch lists 8.8 cu ft for about $9,050 and pairs with Designer refrigerator columns. The Thermador Freedom 24-inch lists 12.2 cu ft, a SuperFreeze mode that reaches -22°F and Thermador's slow-melting Diamond Ice, for about $8,949. The Miele MasterCool 24-inch lists 11.23 cu ft and an internal ice and chilled-water dispenser for about $9,849.

Size the freezer to how you shop. An 18-inch column suits households that cook fresh; a 24-inch suits bulk buyers. Stay in one brand so heights and reveals match, and read our column refrigerator guide for pairing and installation rules.

Pick the width first: 30, 36 or 48 inches

Width drives everything else. A 48-inch side-by-side (Sub-Zero, Monogram, Viking, JennAir) gives you roughly 29 cu ft and a full-height freezer, which suits big families and entertainers. A 36-inch French door, like the Thermador Freedom or Fisher & Paykel Series 11, lands closer to 19 cu ft. A pair of 30-inch columns can match or beat that, but takes 60 inches of wall.

Panel-ready or stainless?

Panel-ready units accept custom cabinet fronts, so the fridge reads as furniture. Thermador, Miele, Liebherr, Fisher & Paykel and the JennAir 48 on our list are panel-ready; Sub-Zero offers both. Remember to budget for the panels themselves, and for JennAir's RISE or NOIR panel kit, which is sold separately. Our panel-ready appliances guide covers costs and installation.

What luxury refrigerator prices really include

List prices are only the starting point. Luxury brands enforce minimum advertised prices, so the real savings come from dealer packages and brand rebates. Thermador's Gift With Purchase event runs January 1 to December 31, 2026, and offers up to three complimentary appliances or upgrades with qualifying cooking or refrigeration purchases; confirm qualifying models with your dealer. Read the Sub-Zero price guide and when to buy luxury appliances before you negotiate.

Warranty and service: the quiet differentiator

Refrigerators are the one appliance where sealed-system coverage really matters. Sub-Zero adds a 5-year full and 12-year limited sealed-system warranty to its 2-year full coverage. Monogram and Liebherr also extend sealed-system parts to 12 years, and Viking adds 6-year full coverage on refrigeration. Miele and Fisher & Paykel list a 2-year warranty. In practice, a good local authorized service tech matters more than the badge, so ask your dealer who services each brand near you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best luxury refrigerator brand?

Sub-Zero is the benchmark for built-in refrigeration, with dual refrigeration and long sealed-system coverage. That doesn't make it right for everyone. Monogram offers a similar 48-inch built-in format with a bigger freezer at a comparable list price, and Liebherr and Miele are excellent if you want fully integrated columns. Pick the format first, then the brand.

How much does a luxury refrigerator cost?

The refrigerators we cover list from about $9,700 for a 30-inch Miele MasterCool column to about $15,900 for a stainless Sub-Zero Classic 48 side-by-side. Column systems cost more in total, because a freezer column adds about $8,900 to $9,800. Panels, installation and any panel kits are extra. Dealer packages and rebates are where you'll actually save.

Is a built-in refrigerator worth it over counter-depth?

If the kitchen is a long-term investment, usually yes. A built-in sits flush with your cabinets, can take custom panels and typically carries longer sealed-system coverage. A counter-depth fridge costs far less and is easier to replace, but it still reads as a freestanding appliance. If you'll sell within a few years, counter-depth is the practical call.

Do luxury refrigerators need special installation?

Yes. Built-in and integrated units are made for a precise cabinet opening, often with anti-tip anchoring, a dedicated outlet and a water line for ice and water models. Panel-ready units also need custom panels fitted by your cabinetmaker. Get the manufacturer's installation specs to your designer before cabinets are ordered, not after.
