Outdoor kitchen appliances have to do everything indoor ones do while living through sun, rain and winter. That's why luxury built-in grills, pizza ovens and outdoor refrigerators are built from heavy stainless steel and rated specifically for outdoor use. The appliances we cover list from about $2,300 for a premium pizza oven to about $26,000 for a hand-built hybrid grill.

The short answer: the grill sets the budget, so choose it first. For most luxury outdoor kitchens, a 36-inch to 42-inch gas grill from Lynx (about $9,559), Hestan (about $10,099) or DCS (about $8,099) is the sweet spot. If you want to cook over gas, charcoal and wood in one grill, the Kalamazoo K750HB (about $25,295 to $25,995) is in a class of its own. Then add an outdoor-rated refrigerator, such as the True Residential TUR-24 (about $4,569) or Sub-Zero Designer (about $4,865), and a pizza oven if you'll use it.

The Wolf 36-inch outdoor gas grill (OG36) is a well-equipped premium grill, but the first thing to know is availability. Wolf marks it "Limited Availability," and Abt lists it as no longer available, so it may be phasing out. On paper it has two 25,000 BTU grill burners, a 25,000 BTU infrared sear zone, a 14,000 BTU infrared rotisserie and 1,080 sq. in. of cooking area. The roughly $7,805 list price comes from Sub-Zero Wolf's Canadian site in US dollars. Check stock before you design around it.

How to choose outdoor kitchen appliances

Start with the built-in grill

Pick the grill by how you cook. If you want gas convenience and a sear zone, the Lynx Professional 42-inch adds an adjustable Trident infrared burner, and the DCS Series 9 offers an infrared sear version. Hestan's 36-inch grill lists three 25,000 BTU burners and a 50 lb rotisserie. Kalamazoo's Hybrid Fire grill burns gas, charcoal and wood in any combination, which is what serious live-fire cooks want.

Confirm the fuel before ordering. Most grills come in natural gas or propane versions, and they aren't interchangeable without the right parts. One availability note: Wolf marks its OG36 outdoor grill as limited availability, so check stock before you design around it.

Then the outdoor refrigerator

Only buy a refrigerator approved for outdoor use; an indoor unit isn't designed for outdoor heat and weather. The True TUR-24 is UL rated for outdoor use, lists 33 to 47°F and comes with a lock on stainless models. The Sub-Zero Designer outdoor unit lists 5.4 cu ft, is panel-ready and connects to Sub-Zero's app. For ice, the Scotsman and Sub-Zero clear ice makers are outdoor rated; see the undercounter refrigeration hub.

Pizza ovens: portable or built-in

Gozney's Dome Gen 2 (about $2,300 to $2,500) is a freestanding oven that runs on gas, wood or charcoal. Alfa's Moderno 3 Pizze (about $4,849) cooks three pizzas at once and sits on a counter or base. Kalamazoo's Artisan Fire countertop oven (about $10,995) is gas-fired and reaches 1,000°F, built to sit in a stainless outdoor kitchen.

Warming drawers and finishing touches

A warming drawer approved for outdoor use, like the Wolf WWD3050O, keeps platters hot while the grill finishes. See the warming drawers hub.

Budget, warranties and installation

Appliances are only part of an outdoor kitchen budget. Gas lines, electrical, island construction, countertops and any roof or cover are quoted separately by your contractor. Our outdoor kitchen cost guide shows sample appliance packages at list prices and the cost drivers to ask about.

Warranties differ by part. Lynx and Hestan list lifetime coverage on key stainless parts but limited labor; Kalamazoo lists 2 years full plus 25 years limited on burners, grates and structure.

For ranked picks, see the best built-in grills, the best outdoor pizza ovens and the best outdoor refrigerators, or compare two favorites in Lynx vs Hestan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best luxury built-in grill?

For most buyers, the Lynx Professional 42-inch and Hestan 36-inch are the top gas picks, with long warranties on key stainless parts and rotisseries included. The DCS Series 9 is the value choice at about $8,099. If you want live fire, the Kalamazoo K750HB burns gas, charcoal and wood, but lists around $25,295 or more.

Can you use an indoor refrigerator outside?

You shouldn't. Indoor refrigerators aren't designed for outdoor heat, humidity and weather, and using one outside can affect warranty coverage. Choose a unit the maker approves for outdoor use, such as the True Residential TUR-24, which is UL rated for outdoor use, or the Sub-Zero Designer 24-inch outdoor refrigerator.

How much do outdoor kitchen appliances cost?

At list price, a luxury built-in grill runs from about $8,099 (DCS) to $25,995 (Kalamazoo). Outdoor refrigerators list around $4,569 to $4,865, and pizza ovens about $2,300 to $10,995. Construction, utilities and countertops are extra and vary widely, so get quotes from local outdoor kitchen contractors before you set a budget.

Should I choose natural gas or propane for an outdoor grill?

Choose natural gas if you have a gas line at the house and want an endless supply with no tanks to swap. Choose propane if a gas line isn't practical. Most luxury grills are sold in both versions, so order the right one; converting later requires the maker's parts and a qualified installer.
