The BlueStar Platinum 36-inch gas range (BSPGR366B) is the most powerful, most commercial-feeling 36-inch range here, built in Pennsylvania for cooks who want raw heat. Front burners are rated at 25,000 BTU, every burner simmers down to 500 BTU, and the oven fits a full 18-by-26-inch sheet pan. It starts at $11,495, and that's BlueStar's minimum retail price (UMRP), not a typical MSRP. The trade-offs: an all-gas oven, no Wi-Fi and fewer conveniences. For high-heat cooks, it's the most purpose-built gas range here on paper.

Best for: Serious cooks · Gas-flame cooking · Bakers · Design-forward kitchens

What we like

  • 25,000 BTU front burners, among the strongest on any 36-inch range here
  • All burners simmer down to 500 BTU
  • Oven fits a full 18 x 26 inch commercial sheet pan
  • 1,850°F infrared broiler rated at 15,000 BTU
  • 1,000+ colors, 190 knob colors and 7 trim finishes

Watch out for

  • $11,495 is a minimum retail price, so expect quotes at or above it
  • No Wi-Fi or smart features
  • Gas oven is less precise for delicate baking than electric
  • Warranty details come from a retailer listing

Design and build

BlueStar is the cult favorite among serious home cooks, and the Platinum is its top line. It's freestanding at 36 inches and available in more than 1,000 colors, with 190 knob colors and 7 trim finishes. If you want a specific shade to match your cabinets, no other brand here comes close.

A note on models: BlueStar's site now shows the BSPGR366B with sealed X-8 star-shaped burners. Retailers still list the open-burner BSP366B, which uses 25,000 BTU PrimaNova burners, a 4.6-cubic-foot oven and an interchangeable griddle or charbroiler. Make sure your quote names the model you want.

Performance on paper

BlueStar rates the front burners at 25,000 BTU and the rear burners at 18,000, with a 500 BTU simmer on all six. Only Hestan's 30,000 BTU center burner beats that peak among 36-inch ranges here, and you get both wok-level heat and a true low simmer on the same burner.

The oven is the other draw. Its interior measures 29.25 inches wide, 20 deep and 16.625 tall, roughly 5.6 cubic feet by our calculation from those dimensions (BlueStar doesn't publish a capacity figure). It's heated by a 30,000 BTU oven burner with convection, and the infrared broiler reaches 1,850°F, ideal for steakhouse-style searing.

Because that capacity is our own calculation, ask your dealer to confirm usable space.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Buy it if you sear, stir-fry and roast hard, bake bread or pizza on full sheet pans, and want a custom color. Skip it if you bake delicate pastries, want smart features or prefer a polished, tech-forward range.

It also suits bread and pizza bakers who want a full commercial sheet pan in a home oven, something few residential ranges allow.

Price, warranty and service

BlueStar lists the range starting at $11,495 UMRP, its minimum retail price, so don't expect discounts below that; packages and add-ons are where dealers compete. Custom colors and trims may raise the price. AJ Madison lists a 2-year parts and labor warranty for the related BSP366B; we haven't reviewed BlueStar's official warranty document. It's made in Pennsylvania, per bluestarcooking.com.

Because BlueStar uses minimum retail pricing, comparing it with Wolf comes down to finished-package value: colors, trims and installation.

How it compares

See BlueStar vs Wolf for the matchup with the Wolf 36 gas range, and check the Hestan 36 dual fuel if you want similar power with an electric oven. Our best 36-inch ranges and the range hub round out the field, and the Kitchen Suite Matcher can match a hood and fridge.

Our verdict

The BlueStar Platinum 36 is the high-heat cook's range: 25,000 BTU burners, a full-sheet-pan oven and an 1,850°F broiler in almost any color. Skip it if you want electronics or bake delicately; buy it if raw cooking power and personality matter most.

Questions about the BlueStar Platinum Series 36-inch Gas Range

What is BlueStar UMRP?

UMRP is the unilateral minimum retail price BlueStar sets for dealers. The Platinum 36 starts at $11,495 UMRP, so expect quotes at or above that figure. Dealers may compete on packages, delivery or installation rather than discounts. Custom colors may also add cost.

Does the BlueStar Platinum have open or sealed burners?

The current BSPGR366B on BlueStar's site uses sealed X-8 star-shaped burners. Retailers still list the open-burner BSP366B with PrimaNova burners and a 4.6-cubic-foot oven. Confirm which model your quote covers. The two versions differ in burner design, oven size and top configuration, so don't compare quotes for different models.

Will a full sheet pan fit in the BlueStar oven?

Yes. BlueStar says the oven fits an 18 by 26 inch full-size commercial sheet pan. The interior measures 29.25 by 20 by 16.625 inches, roughly 5.6 cubic feet by our calculation. Most residential ovens only take half sheets. It's a real advantage for bakers.
