Liebherr appliances: review and lineup

Liebherr is a refrigeration specialist from the family-owned Liebherr Group. Like Sub-Zero, it focuses on keeping food fresh rather than selling a full kitchen, and its Monolith line of integrated columns is its luxury answer to Sub-Zero's Designer series.

Our database carries the Liebherr Monolith 30 refrigerator column (MRB 3010), which replaces the MRB 3000. Two major retailers list it at about $9,999; Liebherr doesn't display an MSRP on its site. It's a 15 cu ft all-refrigerator column, panel-ready and ENERGY STAR, rated at 245 kWh a year.

The headline feature is BioFresh-Plus. Its drawers manage temperature closely, and one can drop to 28°F for seafood, which is useful if you buy fish a few days ahead. Liebherr adds InfinitySpring filtered water inside the column, an InfinitySwipe touch display, InfinityLight LEDs, SuperQuiet compressors, a SoftSystem soft-close door and a SmartDeviceBox for Wi-Fi. Like any column, it needs a separate freezer column or freezer drawers.

Warranty, per a major retailer's listing: 2 years parts and labor, 5 years sealed-system labor and 12 years sealed-system parts. No current promotion is listed. Because integrated columns need careful installation, ask your dealer who installs and services Liebherr locally before you commit.

Who should shop Liebherr: cooks who buy fresh produce and fish, open-plan kitchens where a quiet column matters, and buyers who want built-in water without a dispenser model. Who should skip it: households that need maximum capacity; Sub-Zero's Designer 30 holds 17.5 cu ft.

The Liebherr Monolith 30-inch column with BioFresh (MRB3010) is the specialist's integrated fridge, built for people who care most about keeping fresh food fresh. Its BioFresh-Plus drawers include one that can drop to 28°F for seafood, and the Energy Star unit is rated at 245 kWh a year. It sells for about $9,999 at major retailers. The trade-offs are the smallest capacity of the 30-inch columns here at 15 cubic feet and a smaller US service footprint than the American brands.

Questions about Liebherr

Is Liebherr a good refrigerator brand?

Yes. Liebherr is a refrigeration specialist, and its Monolith 30 column offers BioFresh-Plus drawers, internal filtered water, quiet compressors and ENERGY STAR efficiency. Our editorial ratings, estimated from specs and coverage rather than tests, give it top marks for design. Its main trade-off is capacity: 15 cu ft versus 17.5 in Sub-Zero's Designer 30.

What does BioFresh do?

BioFresh is Liebherr's fresh-food drawer system. On the Monolith 30, BioFresh-Plus drawers keep produce, meat and fish at closely controlled temperatures, and one drawer can be set as low as 28°F for seafood. The goal is to keep fresh food at its best for longer than a standard crisper drawer.

Does the Liebherr Monolith include a freezer?

No. The Monolith MRB 3010 is an all-refrigerator column. You'll pair it with a separate freezer column or freezer drawers elsewhere in the kitchen. When budgeting, price the refrigerator and freezer together, along with custom panels for both, since that total is what you'll actually pay.
