The Miele induction cooktop (36-inch KM 7740 FR) is the best value among the luxury induction cooktops we cover. At about $3,199 MSRP it's the least expensive 36-inch model on our list, yet it offers five variable-size zones, TwinBooster up to 3,700 watts, an 11-inch center zone, SmartSelect controls and Con@ctivity 3.0, which links it to a compatible Miele hood. It isn't full-surface, and it doesn't have the biggest bridging setup. For most cooks, though, it delivers premium induction for less.
Best for: Induction cooking · Attainable luxury
What we like
- About $3,199 list, the lowest price among our 36-inch induction cooktops
- TwinBooster up to 3,700 watts, matching Wolf's boost
- 11-inch center zone for large stockpots and woks
- Con@ctivity 3.0 automatically links to a compatible Miele hood
- Wi-Fi through the Miele app
Watch out for
- Zoned layout, not full-surface like Thermador or Gaggenau
- Standard 2-year warranty; longer coverage costs extra
- Hood linking only works with compatible Miele hoods
- Fewer bridging options than Wolf's 17 x 17-inch zone
Design and build of the Miele induction cooktop
The KM 7740 FR is black glass with a stainless frame, sized for a 36-inch cutout. Miele also offers related models, KM 7745 FL and KM 7747 FR, so check with your dealer which installation and frame style suits your counter. SmartSelect controls let you choose each zone's power level directly, which keeps adjustments quick when several pans are going.
Performance on paper
Five variable-size zones adapt to the pan, and TwinBooster lets a zone reach up to 3,700 watts. That matches Wolf's boost and is plenty for fast boiling and searing. The 11-inch center zone stands out: a big stockpot or wide sauté pan sits on a properly sized element instead of hanging over a smaller one.
Con@ctivity 3.0 is Miele's hood link. Paired with a compatible Miele hood, the cooktop tells the fan when to switch on and how hard to run. That's convenient and means fewer moments when steam drifts into the cabinets because no one turned on the fan.
The Miele app adds remote monitoring. Like any connected feature, it adds complexity; local service support matters if something electronic fails.
Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Buy it if you want premium induction without paying for full-surface, especially if you're also choosing a Miele hood, oven or dishwasher. It's a strong pick for value-minded remodelers who still want a luxury brand, and the money saved versus Thermador can go toward a quieter, more capable hood.
Skip it if you want to place pans anywhere on the surface, or if you use long griddles constantly. Thermador's Freedom suits flexible cooks, and Wolf offers bigger bridging.
Price, warranty and service
Miele lists the KM 7740 FR at about $3,199. Minimum advertised pricing limits discounting, so savings usually come through dealer packages. Miele's site showed a cookware promotion when we checked, but we couldn't verify its dates, so don't count on it. Ask for a package quote if you're buying several Miele pieces.
Coverage is Miele's standard 2-year appliance warranty, with extended plans up to 10 years available. Confirm circuit requirements with your electrician.
How the Miele cooktop compares
Thermador vs Miele frames the zoned-versus-full-surface choice. The Wolf 36-inch induction cooktop costs about $580 more with stronger bridging, and the Bosch Benchmark induction cooktop adds FlexInduction zones for about $500 more. Our verdict
The Miele KM 7740 FR is the best-value luxury induction cooktop in our lineup: 3,700-watt boost, a large 11-inch center zone and hood linking for about $3,199. It isn't full-surface, and its bridging is modest. Buy it unless you specifically need Thermador's freedom or Wolf's large bridged zone.

Questions about the Miele 36-inch Induction Cooktop
Is the Miele induction cooktop good value?
Yes, on paper it's the best value among our 36-inch luxury induction cooktops. About $3,199 buys five variable zones, a 3,700-watt TwinBooster, an 11-inch center zone and Wi-Fi. That's less than Wolf (about $3,780) or Bosch Benchmark (about $3,699) and roughly half the price of Thermador's full-surface Freedom.
What is Miele Con@ctivity?
Con@ctivity 3.0 links the cooktop to a compatible Miele range hood. When you start cooking, the hood switches on and adjusts fan speed based on what the cooktop is doing. It only works with compatible Miele hoods, so plan the pair together.
Do I need special pans for a Miele induction cooktop?
Yes. Induction requires magnetic cookware, such as cast iron or most stainless steel. A simple test is whether a magnet sticks firmly to the pan's base. Aluminum, copper and glass pans won't work unless they have a magnetic base layer. This applies to every induction cooktop, not just Miele.
