The Wolf 36-inch professional gas cooktop (CG365P/S) is the most affordable way to cook on Wolf burners. For about $2,920 list, you get five dual-stacked sealed burners led by an 18,000 BTU power burner, and every burner can simmer and melt. It stands just 4 inches tall, leaving room for drawers below. It's less powerful than Wolf's rangetop and costs about $320 more than Thermador's Masterpiece cooktop, but its low-heat control is the best in this class.

Design and build

The CG365P is a drop-in cooktop with a professional look: stainless, continuous porcelain-coated cast-iron grates and a smooth one-piece stainless burner pan with no crevices to trap spills. It needs a 35-by-19.5-inch cutout and stands 4 inches high, which leaves plenty of room for drawers below.

Knobs come in five colors with two bezel colors, for 10 combinations, and the controls are illuminated. Sabbath mode and Star-K certification come standard.

Performance on paper

Wolf lists one 18,000 BTU burner, one 12,000 BTU burner and three at 9,200 BTU. That's a cooktop built for control more than raw power. The 18,000 BTU burner handles searing and big pots of water, while the four smaller burners cover sauces, sides and simmering.

Every burner is Wolf's patented dual-stacked design, with an upper tier for heat and a lower tier for gentle simmering and melting. Spark ignition with flame recognition relights a burner automatically if it blows out. Wolf doesn't publish the low-end BTU.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Buy it if you want Wolf's simmer control in an island or perimeter counter, you're pairing it with a separate wall oven, and you don't need multiple high-output burners. It's a smart pick for Wolf kitchens on a tighter budget.

Skip it if you regularly run two big pots at full boil or cook with a wok; a rangetop like the Wolf SRT366, with a 20,000 BTU burner and two at 18,000, suits you better. Thermador's cooktop is also worth a look if you'd rather have three 12,000-plus BTU burners for less.

Price, warranty and service

Wolf lists the CG365P/S at about $2,920; the LP version is CG365P/S-LP. Wolf enforces minimum advertised pricing, so savings come from packaging it with Sub-Zero refrigeration or a Wolf wall oven. AJ Madison lists a 2-year full parts and labor warranty, with additional limited coverage under Wolf's written warranty. Check that an authorized Wolf servicer covers your area.

How it compares

The Thermador Masterpiece 36-inch gas cooktop is cheaper with a 16,000 BTU top burner, and Thermador vs Wolf explains the brand-level trade-offs. The Wolf 36-inch rangetop is the more powerful step up. Our best 36-inch gas cooktops and rangetops and the cooktops hub cover the rest, and a package quote shows Wolf bundle pricing.

Our verdict

The Wolf CG365P is the low-cost entry to Wolf cooking: five dual-stacked burners that all simmer, an 18,000 BTU power burner and a clean, low-profile build for about $2,920. High-heat cooks should step up to a rangetop. Precision-minded cooks will love it.
