The Gaggenau full surface induction cooktop (400 Series CX492612) is the ultra-premium answer to Thermador's Freedom. It lets you place up to six pans anywhere on the glass, lists a 5,500-watt maximum power figure, and runs through a TFT touch display with Home Connect remote access. Its biggest advantage on paper is the warranty: 5 years parts and labor, versus 2 years for most rivals. Pricing is by dealer quote only, and the value case is weak, so it's for buyers who want Gaggenau's design and coverage above all.

Best for: Induction cooking · Design-forward kitchens · Serious cooks

What we like

  • Full-surface induction for up to six pans placed anywhere
  • 5-year parts-and-labor warranty, the longest among our cooktops
  • TFT touch display with clear, graphic controls
  • Home Connect remote access, shared with other BSH appliances
  • Stainless frame suited to a Gaggenau 400 Series kitchen

Watch out for

  • Price isn't published; expect dealer-quote-only pricing
  • Feature list is shorter than Thermador's Freedom on paper
  • Power figures aren't directly comparable to rivals' per-zone or boost ratings

Design and build of the Gaggenau full-surface cooktop

The CX492612 is glass with a stainless frame, the replacement for the earlier CX492611. Gaggenau is known for Vario cooktops and 400 Series appliances, and this cooktop is designed to sit in that family. If you're planning a Gaggenau combi-steam oven or Vario modules, the visual match is part of the appeal.

The TFT touch display is the control center. It's more graphic than simple touch keys, which helps when you're managing several pans in different positions.

Performance on paper

Full-surface induction means there are no fixed rings. The cooktop detects up to six pans anywhere on the glass, which makes oval roasters, griddles and mixed pan sizes easy to use. It's the same core idea as Thermador's Freedom, which also comes from BSH.

Gaggenau's listing gives a 5,500-watt maximum power figure. Brands report power differently, as per-zone ratings, boost levels or total output, so don't compare that number directly to Bosch's 10,800-watt total or Wolf's 3,700-watt boost. Confirm electrical requirements with your electrician during planning.

Home Connect lets you monitor the cooktop remotely through an app. The specs we reviewed don't list as many named modes as Thermador's Freedom, so ask your dealer to demonstrate the features you care about before ordering.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Buy it if you're building a Gaggenau kitchen, want full-surface flexibility, and value a 5-year warranty enough to pay a premium for it. It suits design-led modern kitchens and serious cooks who juggle several pans.

Skip it if you want a published price, the most features per dollar, or simpler zoned induction. Thermador's Freedom offers similar flexibility with a list price, and Miele's zoned cooktop costs far less.

Price, warranty and service

Gaggenau doesn't publish US pricing for the CX492612, and the retailer we checked lists it as call for price. Pricing is by dealer quote, so request a package quote from an authorized Gaggenau dealer, ideally two, and compare.

The warranty is the clear differentiator: 5 years parts and labor from delivery for US purchases on or after January 1, 2025, plus 60 days of cosmetic coverage. Confirm a trained Gaggenau technician serves your area.

How it compares

The Thermador Freedom induction cooktop review covers the closest rival, with published pricing and more named features. Our Gaggenau vs Miele comparison frames the German premium decision, and the Miele 36-inch induction cooktop shows what a zoned, value-priced alternative offers. Our verdict

The Gaggenau 400 Series CX492612 gives you full-surface induction for up to six pans with a TFT display and the best warranty in our cooktop lineup: 5 years parts and labor. Quote-only pricing and a thin value case limit its appeal. Buy it for a Gaggenau kitchen; otherwise Thermador's Freedom is the easier choice.

Questions about the Gaggenau 400 Series 36-inch Full-Surface Induction Cooktop

How much does the Gaggenau full-surface induction cooktop cost?

Gaggenau doesn't publish US pricing, and the retailer we checked lists the CX492612 as call for price. Pricing is by dealer quote, often as part of a larger Gaggenau package. Get quotes from more than one authorized dealer, and weigh the 5-year parts-and-labor warranty when comparing it with Thermador's Freedom.

Gaggenau or Thermador full-surface induction?

Both come from BSH and both handle up to six pans anywhere. Thermador's Freedom has a published list price, MoveMode, 17 power levels and more named features. Gaggenau offers a 5-year parts-and-labor warranty and its distinctive design. Choose Thermador for value and features, Gaggenau for warranty and a full Gaggenau suite.

Does the Gaggenau CX492612 have Wi-Fi?

Yes. It connects through Home Connect, the same app used by Thermador and Bosch appliances, so you can monitor the cooktop remotely. That's handy if your kitchen mixes BSH brands, since one app can cover several appliances. Ask your dealer which remote functions are supported.
