The Thermador Masterpiece 36-inch gas cooktop (SGSX365TS) is the value pick among luxury 36-inch gas cooktops. At about $2,599 list, it has five Star burners led by a 16,000 BTU burner, two at 12,000 BTU and ExtraLow Select for gentle simmering. It's about $320 less than Wolf's CG365P and includes three burners at 12,000 BTU or more. The trade-offs: its top burner is weaker than the model it replaced, and Thermador doesn't publish the ExtraLow BTU.

Design and build
The SGSX365TS is a drop-in Masterpiece cooktop with continuous cast-iron grates, a smooth stainless burner pan and push-to-turn metal knobs, which make accidental bumps less likely to turn on a burner. Electronic re-ignition relights a burner if the flame goes out. Sabbath mode and Star-K certification are included.
It replaces the SGSX365FS, which AJ Madison now lists as no longer available. The older model had an 18,000 BTU center burner, so this update gives up some peak output.
Performance on paper
Thermador lists one 16,000 BTU burner, two at 12,000 and two at 9,100, for 58,200 BTU total on natural gas and 45,200 on LP. That spread is practical for family cooking: one burner for boiling and searing, two strong all-rounders and two for sauces and sides.
The Star burner shape gives a longer flame perimeter than a round burner, spreading heat across the pan base. ExtraLow Select cycles the flame for very gentle simmering, but Thermador doesn't publish its BTU.
Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Buy it if you want a well-made 36-inch gas cooktop for everyday family cooking, you're building a Thermador kitchen, or you plan to use the 2026 promotion. It's a strong fit over a wall oven or in an island.
Skip it if you sear hard or cook with a wok; 16,000 BTU won't satisfy you, and a rangetop is the better answer. Skip it too if the absolute best low-heat control matters more than price, where Wolf's dual-stacked burners lead.
Price, warranty and service

Our verdict
The Thermador SGSX365TS is the sensible luxury gas cooktop: five Star burners, three strong ones, ExtraLow simmering and a 2026 promotion, for about $2,599. Heavy searers should look at a rangetop, and simmer purists at Wolf. For family cooking, it's excellent value.
