The Kalamazoo K750HB is the grill for people who want gas convenience and real charcoal or wood fire in the same built-in. It burns gas, charcoal and wood in any combination, with three 24,000 BTU cast stainless Dragon Burners, an infrared rotisserie and 1,039 sq. in. of total cooking area. It's hand-built in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The price, about $25,295 to $25,995, is more than double most luxury gas grills, so this is a passion purchase, not a practical one.

Best for: Outdoor entertaining · Serious cooks · Hands-on baristas

What we like

  • Gas, charcoal and wood in any combination
  • Cast stainless Dragon Burners with a limited 25-year warranty
  • Infrared rotisserie with a built-in high-torque motor
  • Full 2-year parts and labor, longer than Lynx or Hestan's labor term
  • Optional 316L marine-grade stainless for coastal homes

Watch out for

  • About $25,295-$25,995 before an island
  • Retail version listed as sold out at BBQGuys
  • Max temperature isn't published
  • Width differs between listings (38 vs 39 inches)

Design and build

The K750HB is hand-built in heavy-gauge 304 stainless, with a 316L marine-grade option for salt air (its price wasn't published by the retailers we checked). BBQGuys lists it at 38 inches wide; a dealer lists 39 inches, but that's for the older, discontinued K750HB1NGM6 with cast bronze burners. Confirm the cutout with Kalamazoo's current spec sheet before your island is built.

Performance on paper: what hybrid fire means

The hybrid fire drawer is the point. You can cook on gas alone on a weeknight, load the drawer with charcoal or wood for a weekend cook, or run a mix of fuels for smoke flavor. Pellet inserts are also available.

Three Dragon Burners at 24,000 BTU each, with a grilling-surface figure of 76,400 BTU per BBQGuys; Kalamazoo lists 92,500 BTU total on natural gas, which presumably includes the 10,700 BTU rotisserie burner and other burners. The main cooking surface is 33 x 22 inches, or 726 sq. in. primary and 313 sq. in. secondary. Kalamazoo doesn't publish a max temperature, so we won't guess.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

Buy it if live-fire cooking is a hobby, you'd otherwise build a gas grill plus a separate charcoal grill, and budget isn't the constraint.

Skip it if you mainly grill burgers on gas. A Lynx or DCS does that for less than half the price, and wood or charcoal means ash cleanup. Skip it too if you need it this season; the retail listing shows sold out.

Price, warranty and service

Kalamazoo lists the K750HB at about $25,995; BBQGuys shows about $25,295 for the natural-gas 304 stainless model. Coverage is a full 2-year parts and labor warranty, a limited 25-year warranty on the Dragon Burners, grates and stainless structure, and limited 5-year coverage on other burners, valves, manifolds and controls.

For a hybrid-fire island, a dealer package quote is the sensible starting point.

How it compares

The Lynx Professional 42-inch grill gives you a 300-1,000°F infrared burner for well under half the price. The Hestan 36-inch built-in grill is the design-forward gas alternative. If pizza is on your list, see the Kalamazoo Artisan Fire pizza oven. More options are in our best built-in grills and the outdoor kitchen hub.

Our verdict

The Kalamazoo K750HB is the most capable grill in this group if you want gas, charcoal and wood in one hand-built unit with a 25-year limited burner warranty. It's also roughly $25,000 and listed as sold out at one retailer. Buy it for live-fire cooking; gas-only grillers should spend far less.

Questions about the Kalamazoo K750HB Built-In Hybrid Fire Grill

Can the Kalamazoo K750HB burn charcoal and wood?

Yes. Its hybrid fire drawer lets you burn gas, charcoal and wood in any combination, so one grill covers weeknight gas cooking and weekend live fire. Pellet inserts are available too. That's the main reason to choose it over a gas-only grill like Lynx or DCS.

How many BTUs is the Kalamazoo hybrid grill?

It has three 24,000 BTU Dragon Burners. BBQGuys lists 76,400 BTU for the grilling surface, while Kalamazoo lists 92,500 BTU total on natural gas, which presumably adds the 10,700 BTU rotisserie burner and other burners. Use the manufacturer figure for gas-line sizing.

Is the Kalamazoo grill worth $25,000?

Only if you'll use the hybrid fire. For gas grilling alone, a Lynx or DCS delivers similar heat and space for far less. Its value is in replacing two grills, hand-built construction and a long burner warranty, plus a full 2 years of labor.
