Design and build
This is a 42-inch, 304 stainless grill with smooth welds, spring hood assist, halogen interior lights and blue-lit knobs. It weighs 335 lb, so the island has to be designed around it. Beyond stainless, Lynx offers Obsidian Black and color-collection finishes such as Desert Sage and Limestone. We only captured pricing for Obsidian Black. There's also an all-Trident version, the L42ATR.
Performance on paper: Trident infrared and rotisserie
The Trident burner is the reason to buy a Lynx. At 23,000 BTU and adjustable from 300 to 1,000°F, it can sear a steak hard, then turn down for chicken. Two 25,000 BTU ceramic burners fill out the 855 sq. in. primary grate. AJ Madison lists 73,000 BTU in one place and 75,000 in another; 73,000 matches BBQGuys, so we use it.
The rear infrared rotisserie has two positions and a three-speed motor, which suits a whole chicken or a large roast. Ceramic briquettes and a removable smoker box round out the kit. Hot surface ignition is standard.
Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Buy it if you host big cookouts, want one zone that sears and others that roast, and have the space for a 42-inch island. It's also the pick if a colored outdoor kitchen matters to you.
Skip it if you cook for two most nights. A 36-inch grill uses less gas and costs less. If you want charcoal or wood fire, look at Kalamazoo instead.
Price, warranty and service
Prices come from retailers: about $9,559 for the L42TR-LP in stainless at BBQGuys and about $10,089 for Obsidian Black at AJ Madison. Coverage is lifetime on the stainless body, ceramic burners and grates for the original purchaser, 5 years on parts like manifolds and valves, 2 years on other components and 1 year of labor. Local service matters for labor beyond year one.
For a full island, request a package quote from a local outdoor dealer.
How it compares
Our Lynx vs Hestan grill comparison is the head-to-head most shoppers need. The DCS Series 9 36-inch grill costs less with a 300-1,100°F burner range, and the Kalamazoo K750HB hybrid grill adds charcoal and wood. See our best built-in grills and the outdoor kitchen hub.
Our verdict
The Lynx L42TR is the most versatile gas grill here: a 300-1,000°F Trident burner, a two-position rotisserie and 1,200 sq. in. of space. It's expensive, heavy and only 1 year of labor is covered. Buy it for serious entertaining; smaller households should look at a 36-inch.

Questions about the Lynx Professional 42-inch Built-In Grill with Trident Infrared Burner & Rotisserie
What is the Lynx Trident burner?
It's Lynx's adjustable infrared burner. On the L42TR it's rated 23,000 BTU with a 300-1,000°F range, per AJ Madison. Unlike many infrared burners that only run hot, it turns down for gentler cooking, so it can work as a searing zone and a regular burner.
How much does the Lynx 42-inch grill cost?
Retailer list prices are about $9,559 for the stainless L42TR-LP and about $10,089 for Obsidian Black. Color-collection finishes weren't priced. Outdoor dealers often bundle grills with islands and refrigeration, so a package quote is where any savings usually appear.
Does the Lynx grill come in natural gas?
Yes. The L42TR is sold as L42TR-NG for natural gas and L42TR-LP for propane, and the Obsidian Black version is listed as L42TROBNG. Choose the fuel before ordering, since converting later involves parts and a qualified gas installer.
