DCS is the outdoor grill brand of Fisher & Paykel, sold as "DCS by Fisher & Paykel," which in turn is owned by Haier. It's known for pro-style Series 7 and Series 9 grills with patented U-burners and infrared rotisseries. If you want a serious built-in grill without stepping into the most expensive tier, DCS is a strong place to start.

Our database covers the DCS Series 9 36-inch built-in grill (about $8,099, or about $8,399 with an infrared sear burner). Three 25,000 BTU U-burners deliver 75,000 BTU across a 300 to 1,100°F range, and the RCI version swaps in a 24,000 BTU infrared sear burner. The infrared rotisserie (14,000 BTU) handles up to 50 lb. Cooking space is 630 sq in primary and 1,164 sq in in total, a lot for a 36-inch grill. A charcoal smoker tray, an easy-lift hood that opens to 90 degrees, cast stainless grates and a 304 stainless exterior round it out. It comes in natural gas (-N) or propane (-L).

The warranty is 2 years limited parts and labor on the entire product, 5 years on radiant trays, side rails, drip pans and sear burners, and lifetime coverage on the stainless burners, burner box and grates, with labor excluded on the long-term parts. One retailer marks it as not made in the USA; country of manufacture isn't stated.

Who should shop DCS: outdoor cooks who want big capacity and high heat at a lower price than Lynx or Hestan, and Fisher & Paykel kitchens that want a related outdoor brand. Who should skip it: buyers who want a grill in a color (Lynx and Hestan offer them), and live-fire fans who want charcoal and wood as main fuels (see Kalamazoo).

Questions about DCS

Is DCS a good grill brand?

On paper, it's one of the best values among luxury built-in grills. The Series 9 36-inch offers 75,000 BTU, a 300 to 1,100°F range, a 50 lb rotisserie and 1,164 sq in of total space for about $8,099. Our editorial ratings, estimated from specs rather than tests, score it a 5 for performance and a 4 for value.

Who makes DCS grills?

DCS is sold as "DCS by Fisher & Paykel," and Fisher & Paykel is owned by Haier. That links DCS to the same family as Fisher & Paykel's indoor appliances, such as its integrated refrigeration and DishDrawer dishwashers. Ask your dealer whether outdoor service runs through the same network in your area.

Should I get the DCS with the infrared sear burner?

Get the RCI version, about $8,399, if you sear steaks often and want a dedicated 24,000 BTU infrared zone. Stick with the standard RC, about $8,099, if you mostly grill burgers, chicken and vegetables; its three 25,000 BTU U-burners already reach up to 1,100°F.
