The Best Built-In Coffee Machines for a Luxury Kitchen

The best built in coffee machine for most luxury kitchens is the Miele CVA 7845. It is the only one here that combines a permanent water line with a backup tank, three bean containers and Wi-Fi, at about $6,999 list. If you want 90 percent of that for far less, Bosch's 800 Series lists at about $3,999 and is the value pick.

Every machine on this list is a 24-inch built-in coffee maker that grinds whole beans and makes espresso and milk drinks at the touch of a button. They differ in three ways that matter: whether they connect to plumbing, how they handle milk, and how well they match the rest of your ovens.

We have not tested these machines. The picks rely on manufacturer specs, warranties, list prices and what owners and dealers commonly report. Not sure whether you want a built-in at all, or a countertop espresso machine instead? The Coffee Finder asks five questions and points you to the right type.

Miele's CVA 7845 is the one to buy if coffee is a daily ritual for several people. DirectWater connects it to a water line, so nobody refills a tank, and a 2.7-liter tank is still there if you would rather not plumb it. CoffeeSelect lets you load three different beans, say an espresso roast, a decaf and a lighter blend, and choose per drink. Ten user profiles and a coffee-pot function of up to 8 cups make it the best fit for families and people who entertain.

It also looks the most at home in a luxury wall, in graphite grey, obsidian black or Clean Touch Steel to match Miele ovens.

The trade-off is price. At about $6,999 on Miele's site, and up to about $7,689 at some dealers, it costs nearly twice as much as the Bosch. Miele does not publish pump pressure, and its niche depth of 21.75 inches needs planning. Skip it if one or two people drink a couple of lattes a day.

Bosch's 800 Series BCM8450UC is the smartest buy for most kitchens. At about $3,999, it covers the essentials: a 19-bar pump, a ceramic grinder, 11 one-touch drinks, eight saved favorites and two cups at once. The insulated stainless milk container rinses itself with steam after use. Home Connect adds app control, and Bosch says it installs without sliding rails.

It suits households that want push-button lattes in the wall and would rather spend the difference on a better range or refrigerator.

The trade-offs: there is no plumbed version, so you refill a 2.4-liter tank. The design is plainer than Miele's or Fisher & Paykel's. Bosch has no Benchmark-series built-in coffee machine in the US, so this 800 Series model will not match Benchmark styling exactly. Bosch's site also showed it out of stock when we checked. Skip it if hands-free water is a must.

Fisher & Paykel 24-inch Series 9 Contemporary Built-in Coffee Maker

Fisher & Paykel · Coffee machine · Built-in

  • $3,799-$4,499 MSRP

Value4/5

Fisher & Paykel's Series 9 Contemporary built-in coffee maker is the pick if you like to steam milk yourself. Alongside the automatic milk jug, it has an extractable steam wand, which none of the other machines here lists. Its 13 one-touch options include a flat white and a long black, and the stainless conical burr grinder has 13 positions.

The black reflective glass with polished trim is the most design-forward look on the list and pairs well with Fisher & Paykel's contemporary ovens. It starts at about $3,799, and one retailer lists the EB24DSXBB1 variant at about $4,499.

The trade-offs: no Wi-Fi, no plumbed option, and Fisher & Paykel's published tank capacity is inconsistent between sources, so confirm it with your dealer. Skip it if you want stainless steel to match a pro-style kitchen. We also chose it because we could not find a current Monogram or JennAir built-in coffee machine.

Best for a Wolf kitchen

Wolf 24-inch E Series Transitional Coffee System

Wolf · Coffee machine · Built-in

  • $4,365 MSRP

  • 2-yr full warranty
  • Grinder: built-in, 13 settings (per Aitoro)
Performance4/5

Value3/5

Wolf's 24-inch E Series Transitional coffee system is the obvious choice if your ovens are Wolf E Series. It lines up visually with them, and it installs without a water line, which makes it easy to add to an existing wall. It accepts whole beans or pre-ground coffee, which is handy for a decaf drinker, and its 14 beverage options and insulated milk container cover most households.

It lists for about $4,365, and retailers cite a 2-year full and 5-year limited warranty.

The trade-offs are features. There is no plumbed version, no advertised Wi-Fi, and Wolf does not publish pump pressure or bean-hopper capacity. On paper, you are paying for the match with your other Wolf appliances more than for coffee technology. Skip it if your kitchen is not Wolf, because Bosch offers more at a lower price. It replaces the legacy EC24, so check that your dealer quotes the EC2450TE/S.

Best Thermador match (limited stock)

Thermador 24-inch Built-in Coffee Machine

Thermador · Coffee machine · Built-in

  • 24″ wide
  • 2-yr full warranty
  • Grinder: ceramic disc
  • One-touch drinks: 11

Value3/5

Thermador's 24-inch built-in coffee machine comes in two versions: the TCM24PS connects to a water line, and the TCM24TS uses a removable tank. The plumbed version lists for about $4,729, which makes it the least expensive plumbed machine here by more than $2,000. It has a 275 psi pump, a ceramic disc grinder, eight personal presets and Home Connect. One retailer lists it as made in Slovenia.

On paper, that makes it the best value for anyone who wants a water line in a Thermador kitchen.

The serious trade-off is availability. Thermador's category page still lists both models with prices, but both product pages say they are no longer available, and one major retailer agrees. Treat it as end of life. Skip it unless your dealer can confirm stock today, and if they cannot, look at the Miele for plumbing or the Bosch for value.

Prices are manufacturer or retailer list prices when we last checked; luxury brands set minimum advertised prices, so savings usually come from dealer packages and rebates. Ratings are editorial estimates: see how we rate.

Plumbed coffee maker or water tank?

A plumbed coffee maker draws from a water line, so you never refill it. On this list, only the Miele CVA 7845 and Thermador's TCM24PS connect to plumbing. Every other machine uses a tank of roughly 2 to 2.7 liters, so a busy household will be refilling often.

Plumbing is worth it if you make more than four or five drinks a day or entertain often. It is not worth tearing open a finished wall. Plan the line before the cabinets go in, and see our built-in coffee machine buying guide for the installation details.

Milk systems

All five make milk drinks automatically. Bosch and Wolf use insulated containers, Miele uses a 0.7-liter container, and Fisher & Paykel uses a thermal jug. Fisher & Paykel is the only one with a separate steam wand if you want to texture milk by hand. Whatever you choose, an automatic rinse matters more than the container; milk lines need regular cleaning.

Beans and grinders

If two people drink different coffees, Miele's three bean containers solve a real problem. Wolf takes pre-ground coffee for a quick decaf. Everyone else has one hopper.

Fitting a built-in espresso machine into the wall

Every machine here is 24 inches wide and about 18 inches tall, so each one stacks neatly over a warming drawer or vacuum seal drawer or beside a 24-inch speed oven. Depths vary from 14 inches (Thermador) to about 19 inches (Wolf), so give your cabinetmaker the exact model's cutout. A popular layout is a coffee machine over a warming drawer next to a steam oven.

Match the brand to your ovens

Built-in coffee is a design decision as much as a coffee one. Buy the brand that matches your wall ovens unless the gap in features is large. If you are still choosing ovens, see our best wall ovens and steam ovens.

Built-in vs countertop

A built-in coffee maker costs more than a countertop super-automatic for similar coffee. Miele's countertop CM 7750 has the same three-bean CoffeeSelect for about $4,499. See our best super-automatic espresso machines and our Miele vs Jura comparison. If you would rather pull shots by hand, our best luxury espresso machines cover that route.

What about Gaggenau?

Gaggenau shows up on many built-in coffee shortlists. It is not ranked here because Gaggenau generally does not publish US pricing, so we could not compare it fairly. Ask a Gaggenau dealer for current US availability and price.

Price and buying

List prices run from about $3,799 to $6,999. Luxury brands control advertised prices, so savings usually come from dealer packages, not coupons. Built-in coffee is usually bought as part of a full appliance order, which is where you have leverage. Browse every machine on our coffee hub.

Frequently asked questions

Is a built-in coffee machine worth it?

It is worth it if you drink espresso or milk drinks every day, want counters clear and are already building a wall of ovens. A built-in costs more than a countertop super-automatic with similar coffee, so you are paying mostly for the integrated look. If you rarely drink more than one coffee a day, a countertop machine is the better value.

Does a built-in coffee maker need a water line?

No. Most built-in coffee makers, including the Bosch, Wolf and Fisher & Paykel here, use a removable tank. Miele's CVA 7845 connects to a water line and also has a 2.7-liter tank, and Thermador's TCM24PS is plumbed. A water line is convenient for heavy use, but plan it before cabinets are installed.

How much does a built-in coffee machine cost?

List prices for the machines here run from about $3,799 for Fisher & Paykel to about $6,999 for Miele's plumbed CVA 7845. Add cabinetry, electrical work and, for a plumbed model, a water line. Luxury brands control advertised prices, so ask about dealer packages when you buy it with other appliances.

Which built-in coffee machine brand is best?

Miele has the deepest built-in lineup and the most features, including plumbing, three bean containers and Wi-Fi. Bosch offers the best value, Fisher & Paykel the most distinctive design, and Wolf the best match for a Wolf oven wall. In most kitchens, the best brand is the one that matches your wall ovens.

Where should a built-in coffee machine go?

Put it at eye level, close to where you drink coffee and away from the main cooking zone, so nobody is reaching past a hot cooktop. Stacking it over a 24-inch warming drawer is a classic layout. If it is plumbed, it needs a nearby water line, and every model needs power planned into the cabinet.
